But first:

A word from Jeanne's webmaster:

Authors and deadlines are famous as to conflict. The moment a deadline is imposed on an author the propensity to procastinate abounds. So you might think that the timing of this newsletter is a reflection of that foible. However, THAT IS NOT JEANNE'S STYLE. She meets deadlines with a regularity that leaves publishers gasping in disbelief.

So why is this newletter -- scheduled for Christmas 2009 -- late?

Blame me, the person who tends her web site and is responsible for getting her newsletters out on time. So here it is exactly as she sent it to me on Dec 14 with plenty of time in hand to get it done.

So with apologies to you good readers of fine Jeanne Stein novels and to you Jeanne, here it is at last.

The Jeanne Stein Irregular

Happy Holidays!

Wow, it’s that time again. I know I haven’t been very good at keeping in touch and I have two excuses—

The blog I post every week

Working on books

Now the blog pretty much covers what I’ve been up to as well as allowing me to share items of interest that caught my eye the previous week.

Writing and marketing current and contracted books takes up most of the rest of my day.

Still, I should keep in better touch. I know it’s early, but here’s my New Year’s Resolution to you: at least a short newsletter EVERY month.

In order to make it interesting, I’ve come up with a calendar for the first four months. See what you think.

January is “Ask Jeanne Anything” month. You have until the 20th of January to email questions you’d like answered. I’ll pretty much answer ANYTHING. Just use good judgment and be tactful, please!!!

February: I’ll reprise an article I wrote entitled So You Want to Be a Writer.

March: Urban Fantasy: what is it and what makes it different from other genres.

April: The market—big press, small press, self-publishing

Just to give you incentive to participate, each month I’ll give away a prize—an Amazon gift card, a set of book cover magnets, a surprise or two. I’ll use a random number selector to determine the winner from all who offer a question or comment.

Let’s have some fun.

Now, what’s been going on for me? All seven books in the Anna Strong Chronicles have been picked up by Audible Books. I don’t have the details about who will be reading yet. In addition, the Norwegian publisher, Schibsted Forlag, just bought the sixth book, Chosen, as well as the first five. My books are now published in Germany and Norway as well as the US and the UK. There will be an Anna Strong novella in a collection called HEXED which will debut in 2011.

The sixth book, Chosen, is in the editorial process now but I did get this cover copy from my editor:

It’s been almost a year since bounty hunter Anna Strong became a vampire, but as she’s about to discover, her greatest powers have yet to be unleashed…

Though Anna has become accustomed to the fact that she’s now a vampire, she still enjoys the illusion of being human. So when she suddenly notices that her primitive urges are getting harder to control, she’s worried. Then, she’s attacked, narrowly escaping with her life. The only person with enough motive to want her dead is her old foe—Warren Williams. But another more dangerous enemy lies in wait.

What Anna doesn’t know is that she’s far too valuable to kill. For she’s been chosen to shape the destiny of the vampire race—and all of mankind…

“Anna Strong lives up to her name: equally tenacious and vulnerable, she’s a heroine with the charm, savvy, and intelligence that fans of Laurell K. Hamilton and Kim Harrison will be happy to root for.”—Publishers Weekly

“There are more books about young female vampires...but it’s safe to say Anna Strong is contending for leader of the pack.”—The Denver Post

No cover art yet—but I will share that, too, when I get it.

My friend and webmaster, Jay Salam, and I will be updating the website after the first of the year. In the meantime, though, all the covers of foreign and domestic editions are up for your viewing pleasure.

I will be posting the 2010 schedule soon. There are a couple of local Denver events in January:

Jan. 20 I’ll be at the Tattered Cover LoDo as one of the editors of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers’ newest anthology: Broken Links/Mended Lives. Attending will be many of the contributing authors.

Jan. 23 I’ll be speaking as part of the Schlessman Library’s 2010 Colorado Author Series. More details as they become available.

I wish all of you the very best of the holiday season and a safe, prosperous, fulfilling new year. I appreciate your support. Please do keep in touch and remember to send those questions!

Please feel free to drop me a line with questions or comments. And don’t hesitate to come up and introduce yourself if we’re attending a conference together. Anna and I would love to meet you!

Until next time, all best wishes, Jeanne
