The Jeanne Stein Irregular
Here it is, the first issue of the Jeanne Stein Irregular. Thanks for subscribing. I promise to keep it short. I know the holiday season is a busy one.
I must admit, I have been at a lost as to what to include in a newsletter. I post a weekly blog with fellow Denver vampire author, Mario Acevedo : www.biting-edge.blogspot.com/ and on the blog, I talk about things that are of interest to me. Topics include opinions and articles about movies, books and various media-related items. Joss Whedon and the Buffyverse often find their way into my musings.
So, since I do that on my blog, what can I share with you in a newsletter that would be of interest? That is not a rhetorical question. I’m hoping you’ll tell me what you’d like to know or ask questions you’d like to have answered. To learn a little more about me, my publisher, Penguin/Putnam, posted an interview on this link: http://us.penguingroup.com/static/html/scifi-fantasy/stein.html . The interview talks about how the Anna Strong Vampire Chronicles came to be.
Which, of course reminds, me that the third book in the series, The Watcher, should be on bookstore shelves now. In The Watcher, Anna battles a witch with ulterior motives, a Mexican drug lord with ties to both the mortal and immortal worlds, a psycho hit man and her own demons in her continuing quest to find a place in the world. It's a tough fight, but the one thing Anna has always been able to handle is trouble. I hope you’ll enjoy it and even more importantly, let me know. I really value reader feedback—both the positive and the negative. I can’t make my stories better if I don’t know what works and what doesn’t.
As for new projects, the fourth Anna Strong novel, working title: The Legacy, just went to my publisher. The tentative release date for that one is September 2008. In the meantime, I have a short story in the anthology Many Bloody Returns which you can pick up now that features a witch with a real split personality named Sophie. I’m working on a proposal to give Sophie her own book. I’ll keep you informed how that works out! I also have a straight mystery short in an anthology entitled Scene of the Crime edited by Dana Stabenow. I don’t have a release date yet but it will be sometime next year and I’ll let you know as soon as I do.
Okay, I promised to keep this short. I’ll be signing in Southern California and Denver the first week of December. You can check the website if you live in the San Diego or LA area or Denver (which is my home). I’d love to meet you in person. My conference schedule will be posted soon, as well. So far, Romantic Times Booklovers Convention, Left Coast Crime, World Science Fiction Con, are definite. More will be added.
Thank you again, for subscribing and please do let me know if there are specific questions you’d like to have answered. If you are an aspiring writer, I’m happy to answer questions about craft, finding an agent, or any other business-related aspect of writing. I can do it here in the newsletter, or in a personal email if you contact me through the website.
All you have to do is ask.
Best wishes for the holidays and a very Happy New Year!
